Mr. Darcy's Diary

I'm just wondering what everyone thought about the book. Personally, I enjoyed it. It was fun to get lost in the thoughts of Mr. Darcy. I am glad that I read it, but thought that she could have stayed truer to Austen's style of writing. I am hoping that more people than just me read this book. And...What are we reading for July? Should we take a break for the Summer? Is there anyone out there?

Darcy and Caroline?

I'm REALLY enjoying this book -- more so than I thought I would. There are a few character relationships that are enlightening when seen from Darcy's point of view. Firstly, Darcy and Caroline? What are your thoughts? It's obvious in P&P to everyone, and I thought even Darcy, her affection for him, but it does not seem to be the case initially in MDD. At the beginning he seems to have a friendly relationship with her, and that encourages her 'ulterior motive'. This seems to change, though. At what point do you think his impression of her shifts? Any other thoughts/insights?

Secondly, Bingley and Darcy. I found it really interesting to experience Charles from Darcy's point of view. My impression in P&P was that Darcy was friends with Bingley, but held a bit of contempt -- anyone think differently? It's interesting to see the dynamics in this relationship -- he obviuosly cares a great deal for Charles, and it doesn't seem to me to be the slight bit condescending, but more so that he respected Charles' sweet nature, but has appointed himself to be the voice of reason not out of pride or pompousness, but because he honestly cares and believes it needs to be done.

Elizabeth? True to character? What are your thoughts so far?

Any other insights or topics to be discussed?

Trouble Finding the Book?

Has anyone else had trouble finding this book?

Ugh.

Here in Logan I've tried Waldenbooks, Hastings and Borders. I ordered it at Borders for $14.95, but I found that Overstock.com sells it just a bit cheaper.

I have it on hold at the library, but I am sure that I will just buy it...

Hello all you busy mama's!!

...I love to read. A lot. And I would love to be part of a book club again. I crave that kind of interaction and adult conversation with people who are as passionate about words as I am. Unfortunately, my desire for enlightening, uplifting reading and my crazy schedule refuse to cohabitate. So this seems to be the next best thing! I would love some input on different books that people are interested in reading ... I, for one, am usually reading 2 or 3 different books at a time, so I'm hoping that eventually we'll be able to have multiple readings, from different genres, going on at the same time. That way as many people as would like to can be involved. One more thing -- we're all busy, I'm sure. That being said, I think it's important to use the time that I do have wisely, meaning I would like to be sure that the books we are reading are uplifting, stimulating, and (this is important to me, sorry!) clean. So my good friends Tera, Alicia and Megan are starting with me, and we are hoping to get as many 'busy mama's' as we can! We'll post a some books to vote on for the next month on the 15th of the previous month ... and then a new book and reading schedule will be posted 5 days before the start of the new month.
We'll start topics for discussion, and if any of you have a topic you would like to contribute, just post it and we'll start a new thread! If anyone has a better idea on how to do this, please let us know :) Since we're anxious to start -- we've gone ahead and picked the first book: Mr. Darcy's Diary, by Amanda Grange (I think you will find that we are all Austen-istas, and this will probably not be the last Austen or Austen related reading, but we will definately take any and all suggestions for the voting!) We'll start the first book on June 1st, and read approximately 83 pages a week... just to give you a rough outline to keep up on the threads. Hope this is all clear! Happy reading, all you busy mamas!
****Suggestions for other genres, and specific books within that genre would be appreciated -- maybe we could find some for June!****
